Felling Hardwood

Top  Previous  Next

Through the Scrolling menu of the forestry managementselecting the third item "Felling Hardwood" you will enter the page that allows you to calculate the working time and the working capacity of the felling.

This calculation is diversified by stands of softwoods and hardwoods.

The calculation procedure requires you to enter the following parameters for the calculation of the working time and the working capacity.

Parameters:

Slope: It is the average slope of the lot, expressed as a percentage. It is possible to choose values between <30% and 70-130%.
Obstacles: This item represents the practicability of the lot. This parameter refers to the one proposed in section Choice of extraction system,at the item "terrain praticability", you can choose along:
all equipment allowed;
trailers not allowed;
practicable with special tractors;
not practicable.
Average tree diameter: it is the average diameter of trees that fall to the cut, you can choose values between 15 and 66 cm.
Average tree volume: it is volume of the stem with no limbs, you can choose values between 0.1 and 3.05 m3.
Tree stem covered by limbs, is the branching of plants, expressed as a percentage of the stem covered with foliage including the dead limbs. It is possible choose a percentage between 0-33% and 67-100%.
Firewood: It is the share of firewood, expressed as a percentage of the total volume of timber removed. It is possible choose a percentage between 0-20% and 51-100%.
Wood types: you can choose among the following items:
short wood system (SWS);
tree long system (TLS);
firewood.
Limb in stack or raked along pathways: expressed as a percentage of the plants that need this work to the total number of plants falling cut. It is possible choose a percentage between 0 and 100% (at intervals of ten units).
Large stacks: this parameter refers to the need to pre-concentrate in stacks of wood before the extraction. For large stacks are those formed by a number of logs greater than 10. If there isn't a need to form stacks, the parameter will be inserted as "no stack", or you can specify the value in a range between 10-12.5 and >17.5.
Small stacks: this parameter refers to the need to pre-concentrate in stacks of wood before the extraction. For small stacks are those formed by a number of logs fewer than 10. If there isn't a need to form stacks, the parameter will be inserted as "no stack", or you can specify the value in a range between 10-12.5 and >17.5.
Stack distance > 5 m: This parameter affects the distance between a stack and the other, it will be inserted only if that value is greater than 5 m. If there isn't a need to form the stacks, you will insert "no stack", otherwise you can specify the value in a range between 5 to 40 m.
Average tree volume: you can choose a value from 0.5 to 10 m3.
Firewood diameter <8 cm: you can choose if you are in this situation or not.
Firewood 1 m long: you can choose if you are in this situation or not.
Sawlog <20% of extraction volume: you can choose if you are in this situation or not.

The possibility to calculate the working time and the working capacity through the button ELABORA is activated only when all required parameters are entered. otherwise it is shown on the screen to insert the missing data.

The calculated results are shown divided into three ranges: the sawlog, the square-cut log and the firewood.

TIPS: The working time and the working capacity are expressed in m3/h and h/m3 respectively.

If in the same plot the required parameters are not uniform you have to split the plots so as to have uniform surfaces on which to calculate the working time and the working capacity unit.
